Pallet Racking Inspection
Detailed Inspection In Progress

Pallet racking is often the backbone of warehouse operations, yet it’s also one of the most neglected when it comes to safety checks. One of the most serious issues we find is when businesses have no inspection schedule or no records of inspections. This isn’t just risky — it’s a direct breach of compliance requirements.

What the Standards Require

Under AS 4084:2023 (Steel Storage Racking):

  • Formal inspections must be carried out by a qualified person at intervals not greater than 12 months.

  • In high-traffic or high-use warehouses, inspections should be conducted more frequently (every 3–6 months).

  • Businesses must keep clear, accessible records of inspections, repairs, and corrective actions.

Without these inspections and records, your racking system is automatically non-compliant, no matter how it looks.

Why Records Matter

Inspection reports and records serve as proof that your business is:

  • Meeting compliance obligations under AS 4084:2023

  • Proactively managing warehouse safety

  • Keeping track of damage, repairs, and modifications over time

  • Protecting staff and reducing liability in case of an incident

If there’s ever an accident, regulators will ask for inspection and maintenance records. Without them, the business could be held responsible.

Common Problems We Find

  • No inspections carried out at all

  • Informal in-house checks done, but nothing written down

  • Old records lost, incomplete, or inaccessible

  • No follow-up documentation after repairs or corrective work

Why This is a Risk

No inspection schedule means:

  • Small issues (like a missing clip or bent upright) go unnoticed until they become dangerous

  • You cannot prove compliance with AS 4084:2023

  • The business faces higher risk of accidents, downtime, and liability

How to Stay Compliant

  • Arrange formal inspections at least once every 12 months (more often for busy sites)

  • Carry out regular informal in-house checks for obvious damage

  • Keep all inspection records in a safe, accessible location

  • Document repairs and corrective actions alongside the inspection reports
